These were the first moai I saw on my trip, and they were magnificently, mysteriously knocked over. Not much shade on Easter Island (one of my criteria for painting outside) but I made due!
About Craig Macnaughton
Toronto-based artist, graphic designer and filmmaker Craig Macnaughton uses watercolour and pen and ink to examine both the distant landscape and the human form. Having travelled extensively throughout Europe, Southeast Asia and South America, he has spent hours painting in front of famous landmarks, sacred temples and busy street markets to bring together his various influences – Schiele, Klee, the Impressionists, 20th century graphic and interactive design – and apply them to his subjects in a unique and modern way.
