This was on a side street high above Valparaiso. I was struck by all the wires that crisscrossed the sky, cutting up the view. After painting this, I went to a local restaurant where the server assumed I knew how to speak Spanish.
About Craig Macnaughton
Toronto-based artist, graphic designer and filmmaker Craig Macnaughton uses watercolour and pen and ink to examine both the distant landscape and the human form. Having travelled extensively throughout Europe, Southeast Asia and South America, he has spent hours painting in front of famous landmarks, sacred temples and busy street markets to bring together his various influences – Schiele, Klee, the Impressionists, 20th century graphic and interactive design – and apply them to his subjects in a unique and modern way. Great capture! I was blown away by their cable work in just about every town I visited in Chile - every power pole had a complete rat's nest of cables coming and going all colored in basic black. I have NO idea how anyone traces an outage or prevents unauthorized tampering.
