I loved the juxtaposition of the old and new here, and sat in this alley for an hour doing this painting. During that time a monk sat with me and chatted about this and that, then gave me his card afterwards.

About Craig Macnaughton

Craig Macnaughton

Toronto-based artist, graphic designer and filmmaker Craig Macnaughton uses watercolour and pen and ink to examine both the distant landscape and the human form. Having travelled extensively throughout Europe, Southeast Asia and South America, he has spent hours painting in front of famous landmarks, sacred temples and busy street markets to bring together his various influences – Schiele, Klee, the Impressionists, 20th century graphic and interactive design – and apply them to his subjects in a unique and modern way. Lessons learned from landscape and architecture are applied to the nude, which gives the human form an almost topographic quality.
